Introduction

IDL (Interactive Data Language) is designed for various kinds of scientific visualization and animations. IDL is an OpenGL-based object oriented graphics language that allows reconstruction of 3-D scenes with spatial perspective and view plane based rendering for interactive visualizations.

Setting Up Your Environment

The first step will be to load the appropriate module for IDL. The default module can be loaded with the following:

       host% module load idl

Additional versions of IDL can be found with:

       host% module avail idl

Getting Started

Once the module is loaded, IDL is accessible through two different program names, idl and idlde. The two commands differ in their display capabilities.

To call the command line interface:

    host% idl

To call the graphical interface for the development environment:

    host% idlde

If you need help getting the program to display remotely, please contact User Support.
