Introduction

The Environment for Visualizing Images (ENVI) is a robust easy-to-use image processing system that provides analysis and visualization of single band, multispectral, hyperspectral and radar remote sensing data. It also has the capability to work with vector data and perform basic GIS functionality. ENVI's point-and-click graphical user interface (GUI) makes learning and using the system faster and easier. ENVI is built on IDL, an array-based interactive 4th generation language (4GL).

Setting Up Your Environment

The first step will be to load the appropriate module for ENVI. ENVI is loaded as part of the IDL package. The default module can be loaded with the following:

       host% module load idl

If you plan to use a non-default version, you will need to specify the version you wish to use. Available versions can be found with:

       host% module avail idl

Getting Started

ENVI can be launched with the following command once the module is loaded:
       host% envi
