Visualization Laboratory Access Policy

Policy

Access to the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC) Visualization Laboratories are controlled via Polar Express. Access to the visualization facilities will only be granted to individuals whom:

Have a valid ARSC system user ID (or a legitimate use of co-located non-ARSC resources)
Have a current UAF Polar Express card.
Have had an initial orientation to the visualization labs from a lab manager or ARSC Consultant
Have completed and signed an access agreement.

You may not share your access with others under any circumstances (e.g., advisor and student, ARSC user and ARSC user, etc.). Users will be notified by signage and news/MOTD of pending changes to laboratory access.

As with any ARSC resource, access is a privilege. Users of the Visualization Laboratories should exercise sound judgment in protecting these resources. Appropriate resource protection measures include, but are not limited to:

Securing the lab after finishing a work session (especially if you are the last user in the lab)
Maintaining a clean lab (e.g., removing personal materials at the end of each session; putting manuals away; discarding scrap paper; etc.)
Keeping power on to all computer equipment
Securing computer terminals while away from the lab for short periods via screen locking software
Logging out of computers when leaving for longer periods.
Keeping food and drink out of the lab,
Keeping current on, and complying with all ARSC policies
Using printer resources wisely (e.g., print only jobs which require that you have a hard copy)
Reporting hardware, software, and environmental problems to the Lab Manager or User Support.

Users of the Discovery Lab must also complete the access agreement. and follow additional Discovery Lab Use Policies.
