ABAQUS Abares

Each time a job is run on ABAQUS Analysis Modules correctly, a restart file with an extension .res is created along with the other files generated by ABAQUS Analysis procedures. The restart file is used to record the geometry model and solution data base for the output so that the ABAQUS/Post can use the restart file as a main input file.

Sometimes the results of the ABAQUS analysis run on one computer may need to be postprocessed for another computer. For example, in a big research project, there are many cases that need to be run and investigated at same time by ABAQUS. To obtain the results within a specified period of time, the cases can be tested on different computers simultaneously and the final results postprocessed on one computer. However, restart files generated on one computer cannot be processed directly by ABAQUS/Post running on another computer unless both computers use the same binary format. ABAQUS/Abares is a restart file translator and it allows restart files to be translated from one binary format to another.

The syntax of ABAQUS/Abares is:

       abaqus abares job=job_name
                     [restart=restart_file]
                     [beginstep=step_number] [endstep=step_number]
                     [increment={all | endstep | final | none | integer_list}]
                     [interactive | background | queue=[queue_name] [after=time]]

ABAQUS/Abares creates a neutral, binary, intermediate, transportable form of the restart file with an extension .rnb from the .res file. From this file it creates a native binary restart file with a .rst extention that is usable by ABAQUS/Post.

For more details on this ABAQUS facility please refer to the "Execution procedure for ABAQUS/Abares" in the ABAQUS/Post manual.
