Virginia Bedford, associate director of the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center, along with ARSC-affiliated faculty Tarek El-Ghazawi of The George Washington University, have just returned from visiting universities and agencies in Beijing and Nanjing. The pair made the trip in late December to investigate possible collaborations and exchanges with ARSC and Chinese researchers, particularly in computational science related to modeling of environmental phenomena such as climate change and weather.
During the trip, Bedford and El-Ghazawi visited many sites including Peking (Beijing) University, Tsinghua University and Beihang University in Beijing, and Nanjing University, Hohai University and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) in Nanjing. In addition, they visited several Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) organizations including the Institute for Atmospheric Physics, the Key Laboratory of Computer Systems and Architecture at the Institute for Computing Technology, the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS) and the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC).
As part of the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP), ARSC provides high performance computational, visualization, networking and data storage resources for researchers within UA, other academic and scientific institutions, the Department of Defense and other government agencies.
