RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist ARSC communications staff in gathering information and preparing written, graphic, and/or photographic materials for Web content, brochures, newsletters, flyers, posters, events and/or news releases. Provide support for maintenance of communications, media and constituent databases, including obtaining, entering, retrieving and fact-checking data; assist with distribution of ARSC print and electronic communications to various audiences. Organize and maintain electronic and hard-copy filing systems. Facilitate VIP, media and public visits to ARSC's Discovery Lab. Responsible for special projects as assigned, including ARSC representation at university outreach events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Training in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or related course work with at least one year of major-related work experience or equivalent experience in writing for print and electronic media, web content, corporate publications, and/or non-profit organizations. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to establish and maintain effective relations with individuals and groups to work successfully as a member of the ARSC communications team; possess basic knowledge of public relations principles, a good understanding of the media, advertising and marketing, as well as print and electronic publication production; able to maintain confidentiality. Must be familiar with AP Style. Must be familiar with the Fairbanks area and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Must be able to manage difficult situations effectively. Must have skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and FilemakerPro; desired experience in HTML and XHTML or web page development and maintenance.
