Description
The Arctic Region Supercomputing Center will offer free training for new and current users of high performance computing resources. Users can learn the latest programming tools and techniques for organizing, manipulating and displaying data.
The training is scheduled for June 9 - 12 and all classes will be held in the ARSC classroom, room 009 of the West Ridge Research Building (WRRB).
Tuesday, June 9

9 - 10 a.m. Linux/Unix
- Instructor: Don Bahls
- Introduction to the basic commands necessary to navigate the Linux/Unix programming environment.

10 - 11 a.m. Building from Source
- Instructor: Don Bahls
- How to use Make to invoke the compilers on ARSC machines.

11 a.m. - 12 p.m. VI editor
- Instructor: Tom Baring
- Basic file editing using the vi editor.
2 - 5 p.m. Fortran Programming
- Instructors: Tom Logan and Lee Higbie
- Overview for programmers who need to read Fortran programs or begin to write them.

- Instructor: Anton Kulchitsky
- Basics of using Subversion source code repositories.

- Instructor: Tom Logan
- How to launch and monitor batch jobs using the PBS workload management system.
2 - 5 p.m. C Programming
- Instructor: Ed Kornkven
- Overview of the C programming language for programmers who need to read C programs or begin to write them.

9 - 10 a.m. Network Common Data Form
- Instructor: Kate Hedstrom
- Introduction to the netCDF file format and tools.
1:30 - 2 p.m. NCAR Command Language
- Instructor: Don Morton
- Using the National Center for Atmospheic Research Command Language for scientific data processing and visualization.
2 - 5 p.m. Weather Research and Forecasting Tutorial
- Instructor: Don Morton
- Orientation to the weather model WRF.
Friday, June 12
10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Paraview and Integrated Data Viewer
- Instructor: Patrick Webb
- Introduction to using Paraview and IDV for data visualization.
