ARSC Announces Retirement of Cray T3E and Cray SV1ex
The Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC) announces the retirement of its Cray T3E and Cray SV1ex systems. ARSC operated the Cray T3E, named yukon since February 26, 1997 and the Cray SV1ex, named chilkoot , since September 25, 2000. These machines were replaced by a Cray X1 system, which was installed in the beginning of May 2003, and an IBM Power4 system installed in early 2004.
Data stored in long term storage on yukon and chilkoot will continue to be available via the archive filesystem. Files in home and scratch directories on chilkoot and yukon were not moved when the systems were decommissioned. Users who need files from these locations on yukon or chilkoot should contact User Support as soon as possible.
Introductions to the new systems are available on the ARSC webpage:
- Introduction to Using the X1 at ARSC
- Introduction to Using the P655+/P690+ Complex at ARSC
The ARSC HPC Users' Newsletter is also a good resource for information concerning the new systems.
Users with questions about the new systems are encouraged to contact User Support.
