In 1971, Michael Hart invented eBooks when he typed theU.S. Declaration of Independence on a Sigma V mainframecomputerat the University of Illinois. He founded Project Gutenberg,which created eBooks, including the complete works ofShakespeare, the Bible, and John F. Kennedy's InauguralAddress. Sincethen, more than 16,000 additional eBooks have been created,representing much of the world's great literature inmore than 20 different languages.
