New York City, January 2001

Kara's choir, Edmonds Woodway High School Bel Canto Choir, was one of seven performing the Mozart Requiem in D minor, K.626, in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Concert at Carnegie Hall on 14 January 2001. I was fortunate enough to attend as a chaperone. They were a great group of kids... it was a fun experience. Besides the marvelous concert we did a bus tour of New York including the World Trade Center, a tour of Radio City Music Hall, and walking tours of Manhatten especially around Times Square. Some kids were on MTV, some attended the Today Show, some of us saw Barbara Walters recording, and New York was its busy self. Many kids saw Broadway shows one or two nights, Kara and I were in a group which saw Swing. There were many shows I wanted to see (Les Mis or Rent or Phantom or Miss Saigon again, Contact, Fosse, Aida, ...) and I did not find time to see either the Metropolitan or Museum of Modern Art... next trip!

Some views from atop the World Trade Center.

Looking up the WTC, and the WTC at night.

The Statue of Liberty by night and Radio City Music Hall by day.

Times Square by night and by day.
The mix of cars and people in the streets is common, pedestrians often ignored the crossing lights.

And more Times Square (really).

And more New York (from the street).
