Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland
After the family reunion (parent's 60 anniversary celebration) in State College, Pennsylvania in October 2003,
I drove down through Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia and spent a day driving through and hiking in
Shenandoah National Park.
It was a very nice drive.
The weather was a bit odd (the start of a strange winter) as freezing rain occurred the day before
encrusting branches and grass and ice and forming icicles on leaves. It was really quite pretty,
especially since it was just after the peak of fall colors.
I of course had a warm coat and gloves from traveling from Alaska, so hiking in the cool conditions was not
a problem (and I often had the normally busy trails to myself).
