Florida - SeaWorld (Orlando)

Sorry, I don't have many digital pictures of Florida... many of the pictures I do have are of the "attractions" (Disneyworld, etc.) with Kara. Kara and I have been to the Orlando area twice and I was there for the Super Computing '98 Conference (very interesting... I particularly appreciated they had parallel program for K-12 educators). I was also in Miami in January 1999, pleasant vacation inpite of Miami is mostly a big city... we did find excellent Salvadoran and Peruvian restaurants (I'd never had platanos before).

Some times the best things are not where you expect them. When I passed the dolphin pen there was a major show starting in a nearby stadium, folks were rushing off to it. I just had a few hours so I was just visiting animals... n my way to the manatees in particular. Some trainers stepped out and said a free interaction period was starting with the dolphins, something they do to keep them from getting bored. They tossed some basketballs in the pool and the dolphins were playing catch with the few people standing around the outside. That by itself was neat enough for me. There were some littler kids having trouble getting balls. One came my way so I passed it to a little boy to throw. He of course got a big kick out of that. So what does the dolphin do... continues to pass balls to me to pass off to the littler kids. Are these mammals smart and do they have feelings? No question.
(and I did finally make it to the manatees, too)

Flamingos!
Ok, it's not the same as the estuaries of Celestun, but still attractive birds.
No, I don't have lawn flamingos.
