Carnegie Hall, 14 January 2001

Kara's choir, Edmonds Woodway High School Bel Canto Choir, was one of seven performing the Mozart Requiem in D minor, K.626, in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City on 14 January 2001. I was fortunate enough to attend as a chaperone: A talented group of kids (a great group), a wonderful experience, and a beautiful concert (my eyes teared up).

Carnegie Hall is the building with the flags, to the left with the red awning is the Russian Tea Room. The National Festival Orchestra piece by Paraskevas, Night Wanderings, was a New York Premiere.

Above is the concert hall prior to the dress rehearsal and the choir afterwards.
Photography of the dress rehearsal and the performance (of course) was prohibited.

Yes, I do have some other recognizable pictures of the kids from various activities, but I will not post those online without persmission. The combined choirs (270 singers) had two 4 hour rehearsals on Friday and Saturday afternoons, and the 90 minute dress rehearsal on Sunday morning. I video taped parts of the 2nd rehearsal (flat floor with no risers, so quality of view is so-so). My compliments to Ms. Colson (Choir director) for both the vocal and behavior preparation of the Edmonds kids and my applause and compliments to the kids for their performance and overall behaviour on the trip.
