Third trip to Zihuatenejo, January 2002
Zihuatenejo remains on top of my west coast Mexican vacation list.
The trip started with a day in the Bay Area, a work trip for a workshop in Poughkeepsie, New York,
then Zihuatenejo, and wrapping up with a weekend again in the Bay Area.
Lots of flying time (which meant lots of reading time).
This time in Zihua stayed at Ganga House (through
www.zihuatanejo-rentals.com)
since
Alfredos was not available.
Ganga is by the statue of the dolphins by Playa La Ropa.
The location was convenient for my morning runs warming up along La Ropa then getting some
hill work into Zihuatenejo with a finishing pass along La Ropa again.
Snorkeling at La Ropa was great this trip.
Fewer geckos (darn), more mosquitos (darn!), more sun, cervezas, and snorkeling... good vacation.

The hibiscus and papaya tree were at Ganga House, there were bananas, too.
On a lower branch of the papaya is an interesting bird.
Boats, Las Gatas and an overview, and a sunset from La Ropa.

First Z Trip, August 1999
Zihuatenejo is a neat place... has risen to the top of my list (above Mazatlan)
for west coast Mexican resorts. Virtually nobody spoke English there... it's real.
Yes, it was born as a resort area, but most of the gringos go to nearby Ixtapa...
I am not sure I'll ever swing by there. There were Mexican families vacationing there
and the overall community size is relatively small. Nothing too fancy. Nice snorkeling
off Playa Ropa (and better at Playa Las Gatas or Playa Manzanillo).
